Following a long career as an architect I have reached a point in my life where I
have much more interest in painting old buildings than I do in creating new ones.
Thanks in part to my husband, I am now able to pursue this passion regularly.
As long as I can remember I have been especially drawn to the compositions,
textures, and rich patinas of old buildings, particularly agriculture buildings
and associated landscapes. Since 1996 I have been living in a semi-rural area
of the northern Colorado Front Range where I been visually absorbing this (sadly)
disappearing landscape on a daily basis. I don’t choose to paint literal scenes, nor is my method very traditional. It’s all about paint application and experimentation. I swipe, brush, pour, stamp, wipe, scrape, draw - whatever it takes. The best paintings are generally the ones where I remain loose and bold and don’t tighten up. It’s taken me a long time to marry this method with representational imagery. I’ve been painting for years while working as an architect, and have exhibited regularly at Gallery East in Loveland, Colorado (970.667.6520) during that time. I have participated in many regional and local group shows over the years, and have had exhibits at the Firehouse Art Center in Longmont, Colorado and the Lincoln Art Center in Fort Collins, Colorado. When I am not in my painting studio, I can be found exploring with a digital camera or working at my fabulous, fun and inspiring part-time job as an assistant exhibit curator at the Longmont Museum & Cultural Center in Longmont, Colorado. Education: Master of Architecture, University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Bachelor of Fine Arts, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. Certificate of Graduation, The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA. A more detailed resume/biography is available upon request. |
